Avoid those who lead us astray!
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?2 Corinthians 6:14-15
This was my family devotion last night. Then I spent two hours experiencing the consequences of not abiding by this principle. My position is well known but I placed myself in a compromising position by choosing to not stick to my values.
I remember advice from a theology professor when I was looking to get married:
"Run for Christ. The woman running next to you is the one you should choose." Hosea Baxter
I'm on a marathon. This is not a sprint. I do not want to burn out and crash by doing a hundred meter dash on a marathon. It's clear that my biblical worldview is a joke to many.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith."Romans 1:16-17
Being a Christian is not a costume for me. It is my life. It may humor you. So be it but it is my way of life. I will always strive to be a light in the darkness. But when you try to snuff me out, we are done.
I strive to honor my word. To that end, I understand that it is a hard word for many. I've had to end decade long relationships because of this foolishness because it compromised my pursuit of God. Now, I must put to practice what I shared with my family in devotion last night.
I'm not offended. I'm convicted that I knew what was to happen and chose the path knowingly. I'm not a victim when I'm a willing participant. But confirmation was given and I will not repeat the mistake.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful lesson.
