Rejecting false gospels
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.Galatians 1:6-9
One of the greatest dangers that faced the early Church was the mixing of religions into the belief system/ideology that riots itself in the Work of God, not man! Why? God understood humanity's struggle to remain humble and recognize its fallen nature that keeps them from relating with Him without the intercession of Christ.
As the Apostle Paul reaches out to the Community of believers; they are riddled with behaviors unbecoming because of the works-oriented Jews who believed the Old Testament laws needed to continue regardless of the Glorious Ministry on the Cross at Calvary. Christians were falling back into the trap of trying to appease God with acts of kindness and obedience as though they would merit favor already granted through Christ.
Remembering the freedom that the Jewish community experienced because of the grace of God through Jesus Christ, Paul took serious offense to erroneous teachings crippling the early church. Call knew that the ideas and notions of returning the community back to a set of laws would have never redeemed them. There was too much at stake to allow rituals to play any part in the redemption of the people of Israel.
This is why all believers must strongly condemn any teachings that supplant, supplement or even nullify the finished work of Jesus on the Cross. Even the social justice movement.
